چکیده

The study was conducted to determine the correlations between serum concentration of selected macroand microelements, namely: magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), arsenic (As), calcium (Ca), cadmium (Cd) chromium (Cr) and selenium (Se) with increased or decreased predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer. The subjects selected for the trial were Polish women, positive for at least one of three founder mutations in BRCA1 gene dominating in Poland (5382insC, C61G, 4153delA). Persons with detected tumor were considered as cases and the others were considered as controls. One case and two controls were paired regarding many criteria (e.g. age, family cancer history, cigarettes smoking) to achieve the maximum of similarity between them. All the elements were quantitatively measured simultaneously in diluted serum samples by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) using mass spectrometer (Elan DRC-e, PerkinElmer) in standard mode (Mg, Cu, Zn) and in DRC mode (As, Ca, Cd, Cr) with methane as a reaction gas, for removing polyatomic interferences in measurement.

Serum concentration of iron as predictor of cancer risk among BRCA1 mutation carriers

The aim of the study is identification of correlations between the serum concentrations of iron and the risk of breast and/or ovarian cancer among female BRCA1 mutations carriers. The subjects selected for the trial were Polish women, positive for at least one of three founder mutations in BRCA1 gene dominating in Poland (5382insC, C61G, 4153delA). Persons with detected tumor were considered as...

Women with hereditary breast cancer predispositions should avoid using their smartphones, tablets and laptops at night

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women, both in the developed and developing countries. Women with mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes have an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Recent studies show that short-wavelength visible light disturb the secretion of melatonin and causes circadian rhythm disruption. We have previously studied the health effects of exposure...

Functional Investigation of the Novel BRCA1variant (Glu1661Gly) byComputationalTools andYeastTranscription Activation Assay

Introduction: Mutations in the BRCA1 gene are major risk factors for breast and ovarian cancers. However, the relationship between some BRCA1 mutations and cancer risk remains largely unknown. Cancer risk predictions could be improved by evaluation of the impairment degree in the BRCA1 functions due to a specific mutation. This study aimed to assess the functional effect of a novel variant (Glu...

میزان بیان پروتئینBRCA1 در کارسینوم های مهاجم و درجای پستان و ارتباط آن با مارکر سلول های بنیادی سرطان پستان (CD44) و عوامل پیش آگهی تومور

Introduction : Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second cause of cancer death among women. Despite recent developments in therapeutic tools about 25% of all the involved cases die annually. The clinical, molecular, and pathologic features of breast cancer in BRCA1 mutation carriers suggest that BRCA1 may function as a stem-cell regulator. The purpose of the current study was to ...
